Our Teachers’ Corner is dedicated to Canadian Parents for French activities that are available for French second-language teachers (Core French and Immersion) to share with their class! Some events are virtual while others are in person.

School Activities 2023-2024
La Légende de Sarila (2013, 1h 22 mins)
CPF and Cineplex Cinemas is proud to present La Légende de Sarila in December 2023.
The shaman of a clan of Inuit nomads has angered the goddess Sedna by colluding with the forces of evil. The result of which the animals have all fled, the men no longer have livestock to hunt and the people are starving. The healer Saya recalls a legend, that of Sarila, a flourishing land where game abounds. Three intrepid young people with pure hearts are chosen to find this legendary place. They will have to escape many traps set by the shaman who hopes that the teenagers fail in their mission and return empty-handed.
Dates and Locations:
Friday, December 8: Bridgewater Cineplex and Truro Cineplex.
Monday,December 11: Yarmouth Cineplex.
Thursday, December 14: New Minas Cineplex, Dartmouth Crossing Cineplex, and Scotiabank Bayers Lake Cineplex.
Cost is $7.50 plus tax per student. Teachers and chaperones are free.

Sandy and Thomas will be on the road again in the SSRCE and TCRCE in October/November.

Concours en classe
Do you have a public speaking component in your curriculum? Concours en classe is a great way to introduce your students to presenting confidently in class “en français”.
Concours en classe will be open for registration from November to January. Every student participating will receive a Concours d’art oratoire certificate, Concours d’art oratoire participation ribbon, and Concours swag. Concours en classe kits will be shipped to your school in January-March 2024. No limit on number of students or number of classrooms registered.
Concours en classe is open to students from grs 1-8. Registration form will be available starting in November. Students grs 5-12 wishing to participate in their RCE regional Concours d’art oratoire must contact their French teacher or French Second-Language consultant for further information.

Schools and Educators Cultural Grant Application Form 2023-2024
Canadian Parents for French, Prince Edward Island offers cultural grants up to $1000 to teachers and schools for French language activities.
What projects qualify?
To qualify for a French cultural grant, an event must promote one of the following:
- A new or innovative French activity for your classroom or school (ie youth leadership event, etc)
- An event or performance that highlights French Second-Language or Francophone culture in an educational setting (i.e. travelling performer, workshop, etc)
- A special French Second-Language or Francophone cultural event that is open to the school population and/or general public (French cafe night, French movie, etc).
Applications will be reviewed and processed as soon as possible. Please allow time before your event/activity to receive approval. Please complete the outline of your budget for our records. The cultural grant can be applied from September to June of each school year. Multiple requests will be approved depending upon funds available.

Evangeline Middle School, Mme Larade: Gr 6-8 French immersion students to attend a culinary workshop and film in French at the Devour Festival, October 2023.
Eastern Shore District High School, Mme. Monique Romagnano: Leadership/Welcome Conference for incoming FSL students 2023.
Gorsebrook Junior High, Mme Sarita Pillay: Monthly French Language Café (9 events).
Evangeline Middle School and West Hants Middle Schoool: Transportation costs.
LeMarchant-St Thomas Elementary: French Magic Show.
Kingswood Elementary, Mme Kelly Cyr: French Visability Project.
Herring Cove Junior High, Mme. Raynelle deRoche: Livres Loto Library Project.
Duncan MacMillan High School, Mme. Alice Yon: Gr 7 Trip to Université Sainte-Anne.
